LBSのクラブ活動～学生同士の助け合いの場

ロンドン・ビジネス・スクールのアカデミック・カリキュラムは、1年目の初めの秋学期をのぞけば、それほど厳しいものではありません。たとえば、2年目に必要な単位数はMax12個。一学期換算で、4コマということになります。だから、当然毎日学校ということにはならないわけです。

でも、みななんだかんだといって忙しくしている。なぜでしょう？ひとつには、就職活動、そして、課外活動です。そう、この課外活動が大事なのです。出願エッセイにも、大きな4つの質問のうちそのひとつが、「課外活動でどんなことをやるか、どう貢献するか」、これが聞かれますから、学校側としても、課外活動やってね、と明確にメッセージを発しているわけです。

実際、私の感覚からいうと、アカデミックから得られるモノ半分、課外活動から得られるモノ半分という感じで、課外活動から得られるモノの何とおおいことか。アカデミックを2年間に引き延ばせるので、その分課外活動の時間ができるので、これはある意味で2年生のプログラムの特徴ですね。

たとえば、今日のメールをざくざくと見てみると、いろんな案内が飛び込んできます。少し雰囲気を共有するとこんな感じ：

アントレクラブの企画しているイベントかな、これは。
TiE INSTITUTE – “LEADING HIGH PERFORMING TEAMS”

This extremely interactive workshop, will seek to understand how high-performing teams form and what keeps them motivated and engaged. スペイン・クラブのお祭りの案内。

そして、我らがジャパン・インタレスト・クラブも！ただいま準備中です。
We are pleased to inform you that the Japan Interest Club holds the Kick-off Meeting on October 28th. We will have a short presentation regarding our club activities and objectives. The meeting is followed by a Japan Night where you can taste fantastic Japanese sake and some finger foods.

それから、私もコミッティにいるコンサルティング・クラブも。これはいいセッションです。
The consulting club is giving a practical workshop on case cracking: Our own experiences, tips and excersises. The workshop is aimed at all students from the MBA, MIFF and other programs. We will discuss the set-up of case interviews, but mainly focus on examples, practice and our own interview experiences. At the end of this 1 hour workshop, you should be able to pick up a casebook and start practicing!

と、次々と、色々なイベントやカンファレンスの案内が飛び込むので、多くのものに興味を示しすぎると、消化不良を起すこともしばし。

ようするに、学生が学生同士を盛り上げ、助け合い、教え合い、企画し合う文化というのは、なかなかいいものだなということがいいたかったのです。なんというのでしょう、ある意味で、WEB2.0的。参加者が自らコンテンツを創り出し、それを享受しあうという文化。

このような精神は、仕事をしているとき、もっとさかのぼって、大学の頃、さらにさかのぼってもあまりなかったかもしれない、と少し反省するわけです。

IT技術の発達のおかげで、こうした「興味・関心」でつながる相互扶助のコミュニティはますます増えていくこと確実です。
